Canadian Pump & Compressor Exploring New Territory

National Pump & Compressor recently started a sister company, Canadian Pump & Compressor, to explore the, "Great White North." While Canadian Pump & Compressor will still focus on providing the exceptional service customers have come to expect from the National Pump & Compressor name, there are several important differences that set our young sister company apart. I spoke with Canadian Pump & Compressor President Owen Myhre about these differences and to see why the future of our industry is looking North.

What will Canadian Pump & Compressor's focus be?

Rental and sales of pumps and related products.

How does Canadian Pump & Compressor stand apart from the competition?

Service and reliability are Canadian Pump & Compressor's top priorities. This is the cornerstone of everything we do. We also have several unique advantages. We are extremely nimble, and well capitalized. This means we have the ability to react to large projects our customers are involved in, and quickly supply a wide variety of high-end rental equipment.

How is Canadian Pump & Compressor different than National Pump & Compressor branches?

Canada is blessed with massive amounts of heavy oil. Heavy oil has unique production challenges, thus there are different production processes developed in Canada to produce heavy oil. Canadian Pump & Compressor has different applications for our pumps and our rental equipment is made to perform in these different settings.

Due to market forces, our Canadian branch will focus heavily on pumps and other rental equipment such as light towers in the short-term, and will bring in compressors and dyers slowly over a period of time.

The first part of the year is by far the biggest drilling and construction time in Canada. This is because much of Northern Canada is covered with muskeg. Muskeg is marshy northern land, which typically will only support economical drilling or construction when frozen.

Oil resources are vast but the time frame is short to drill and develop infrastructure, so work is performed around the clock to complete projects – dark or not.

What do you see as the future of the industry?

Canada has the second largest oil reserves in the world behind Saudi Arabia, and production processes have just now been developed which can produce heavy oil economically and in an environmentally-friendly manner. Construction and drilling are at a rapid pace, and in their infancy.

Do you have anything else you think people need to know about CP&C?

We have a first-class, 12500 square foot manufacturing facility in Nisku, Alberta.

Nisku will be our fabrication hub and will service additional field locations as they are strategically placed in different locations. Nisku is located in the heart of the Canadian oil and gas industry. The first locations will focus on oil and gas related work in Western Canada.

One last note: we have lots of inventory in Canada now, and a lot more coming in January. We are open for business, and ready to service our customers!

The Sludge Master – As Fun As It Sounds

This month’s product spotlight features the Sludge Master. The Sludge Master is manufactured by Bayou City Pump, a Houston based company that has been perfecting their pumps for the past 35 years. The Sludge Master is designed to pump the most vicious and difficult materials, and is one of the toughest pieces of equipment available for pumping the seemingly un-pumpable.

Constructed with cast iron and steel, this pump runs best at a lower running speed than most pumps (55 strokes per minute maximum) due to its ability to extract what other pumps can’t. With a standard 4” inlet and discharge, this powerful machine can pump 250 GPM at a maximum discharge pressure of 150 PSI and pass up to 3.5” solids.

The Sludge Master’s applications include: Chemicals, Environmental Pit Cleaning, Oil Spill Response, Waste Water, Filter Cakes, Pump & Paper, Rail Car, Viscous Materials, Sludge Injection, Paint & Hazardous Sludges, Crude And #6 Oil (Bottoms), Tank Bottom Sludges, and Special Processes.
